Early Years and KS1
Early Years & KS1
We recognise that children in the early stages of development learn best through play and experience.
To that end we believe that the Ridgeway School Framework, which incorporates the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, and teaching approaches are best suited to all children in the Early Years and Key Stage One.
We use the Ridgeway School framework which incorporates the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum in Early Years and Key Stage 1 as it is the most developmentally appropriate curriculum for children in the early stages of their learning.
Throughout primary specifically, we use an active style of learning which encourages play and enquiry. These activities include, but are not limited to;
Forest school
Community access (i.e. visiting local shops, parks and cafes)
Enrichment
Music / expressive arts and design
Life and living skills (cooking, health & self-care)
Preparation for adulthood starts in Early Years, ensuring all pupils are given opportunities to learn new skills and be as independent as possible in all areas, building towards increased independence as an adult. The Early Years is the place where we begin to embed skills in communication, routines and supporting the individuals to begin their exciting journey in school.
