Sustainability and our Eco Committee
Sustainability Statement
October 2025 update
Thanks to the hard work of the Eco-Committee and the support of the rest of the school family, Ridgeway School is now the proud owner of our very own Green Flag awarded with merit. Students worked incredibly hard completing a range of eco themed projects throughout the year to achieve this. These included meeting and discussing environmental issues with Mohammad Yasin our local MP, organising a whole school anti-litter poster competition, regular litter picks and auditing the school's use of resources.
This year the Eco-Committee are planning on focussing on the development of our new outside eco-area as well as monitoring recycling in school. We would also like to encourage students across the school to participate in their own regular eco-activities to support our planet. We hope to achieve a Green Flag with distinction this time.
Watch this space!!
Exciting news! Ridgeway School now have our very own Eco Committee. We are aiming to make positive changes across school/homes and the local community to support the planet.
We are very proud to let you know we have just been awarded our Eco Schools Green Flag Award with merit, to showcase the excellent work our Eco Committee are doing. We had to conduct an Environmental Review of the school to see which areas we are currently doing well in and which areas we need to improve.
Keep a look out for our new Green Flag flying over the school (as soon as we get our flagpole!)

Students have been working with Rachel from Kier Construction. She gave them a brief to design a new school which had to include at least one sustainability feature. Students included things like rain water collection, solar panels, wild flower meadows, trees and bug hotels.
Post 16 have been building a bug hotel in the bungalow garden. We also have a hedgehog house next door and have been letting the garden behind grow wild to attract the bugs.
